How I hook things up is changing a bit at the moment but I really don't use many of the pedals much anymore.

I've made Guitar Geek schematic of the live setup I'm working towards right now:

Megl's soon-to-be rig

Pictures will come soon, but my new digital camera just got stolen, so I'm waiting for a new one to arrive.

Do you rely on your preamp for distortion?

You have three different multi's in you diagram. Which multi do you rely on for what type of effects?

Yes - always! I prefer amp distortion over pedals. My main preamp is the V-twin and it has a really nice and versatile clean channel. The dirty channel is very good too, but very Mesa-sounding, so I want the midi-switcher to be able to dial in different pre's to get other types of overdriven sounds. Don't get me wrong ... I loooove the Mesa-sound, but it doesn't fit everything.

Depends ... the thing with most multi's is that they have a certain amount of processing power that gets split between the effects, so for example by dedicating the Midiverb to only delay all the processing power goes to that and therefore sounds better. I don't own the G-Major yet, but it's only a matter of time, and I see that becoming the major multi. The compressor and the GP-8 is kind of corny sounding ... you know in the right 80's kind of corny way, so I tend to use it for that ;-) The compressor reminds me very much of the CS-1 pedal.

Along those lines, have you looked much into dedicated rack units?

A bit - but I guess I'm always hoping to minimize my gear as I gig a lot ... so maybe I should just save up for a G-Force ;-)

About the Lexicon G2 - how do you like it?

And what about the Furman parametric in your setup - do you switch it on/off or leave it permanently on? I mean - is it an integral part of your sound or do you use it as an effect?

I've been away from home for a few months, and both the PQ-3 and the G2 are things I've bought since then, so I haven't had the opportunity to play with them yet. I suspect the PQ-3 will stay on all the time (although, it is foot switchable). I'll be swapping the pickups in my guitar soon to EMG's, and they need to be EQ'd to sound right.

The Lexicon I bought off the opinion of a friend of mine. He suggested that both were good (G2 & G-Force), but that the G2 had some advantages, a 20 second delay/looper perhalps being the largest one, but also had slightly better sound quality. As far as I can tell, it'll only run seven effects at once, but is has a separate proccessor for the reverb, so it doesn't degrade when you run multiple effects (which is why I suspect he felt the G2 sounded better).

I'll be better prepared to comment on it in about a month, right now all I can give is opinion based on what I've read and researched.

Among the pedals you picked my two favorites!

I don't see the HF-2 around a lot, but I don't know why ... it's a great flanger!

The AP-7 Jet Phaser ... oh boy do I love that ... it's kind of rare and I got it dirt cheap years ago, but I think they have become quite expensive. It's a very sweet sounding phaser and the 'Jet' function is kind of a fuzz.

You can read about it and hear a ****ty sound sample (but gives a good idea of what it can do) here:

And it look so damn cool:
