New Years Rig Resolutions
With a new year upon us, I thought now would be a good time to think about the rig I have now and figure out what needs changing and what stays put. I got some of this done already when I gave my Tube King to my brother for Christmas (since I really wasn't using it anymore, and my brother wanted one). But there's still some work to do (I think), so here it is:
(1) Get a Boss TU-2. Just did this, so check this off the list. (2) New amp. Still not totally sure about this. While I like my amp, I think it could be better. So what I'm thinking of doing is wait for my tax return and use at least some of that, plus whatever I can get for my current amp in sell or trade, and get a Fender Bassman reissue. 'Course, depending on how big my tax refund is, I may bite the bullet and get a Vox AC-30, but that's not too likely. I think the Bassman should be ideal for me (given its great tone, the fact that it doesn't have too many bells or whistles, and the fact it's supposed to be good for pretty much any style of music). (3) New pedals. I already mentioned the TU-2, but I may get another pedal or two. I think most of my bases are covered with what I have (Valvetone for OD, Big Muff for distortion/fuzz, Supatrem for tremolo, and my DD-3 for delay), but I'm also thinking about getting a phaser or something like a MXR micro-amp to act as a boost for the Valvetone. But it's entirely possible that there's some pedals I haven't even thought of getting that maybe I should consider. So, yeah, that's what I've come up with so far. I'd appreciate any thoughts or feedback.

glad to see another valvetone user! that's a lovely piece of gear, isn't it?!
looks like you're a bit counfused about the amp thing. i mean, it's pretty strange that you're considering both bassman and ac30, they're pretty different amps. and about the boost thing, you may like an eq pedal. my 2 cents... sorre

Yeah, you're right about the Bassman and the AC30, they're not the same thing. I was just thinking in terms of, okay, I want to get a new amp, and while the Bassman has the things that I mentioned going for it, and it's more affordable, if I could get an AC30 that'd be pretty cool too since those aren't exactly shabby amps either. I guess I didn't really mean to imply that they were the same thing, I'm just kinda daydreaming here about what I could maybe get.
Yeah, I really dig my Valvetone, some of the best money I ever spent. I hadn't thought about the eq, since I don't know that I really want to cut or boost frequenices so much as just boost what the Valvetone is already doing (kind of like what the boost switch on a Fulldrive does). Maybe gain is a more appropriate word. An eq's not a bad idea, though, maybe I'll have to look more into that.

i just got a tu-2. it was totally worth the 75 US including tax i cost me.
for other pedals, id go with the catlinbread scp (soo much better than the micro amp) and a vintage mxr phase 90.

Do you love the Supa Trem as much as me? I played on it for a couple hours on the Hard setting and made myself naucious! DO you use a power supply or battery?

Yeah, I really like the Supatrem, between the hard/soft switch and the speed switch, it's kind of like having four tremolo pedals in one. I tend to use the soft setting a little more than the hard setting, although I have been playing around with the hard setting more lately. I've been using a battery, I've been debating whether or not to get the power supply.
