Updated pics of my stuff...

I'm moving this week so I took some pics while everything was rounded up.

New pics of my rig:

The AX84-style amp that I built (5 watts of loud distortion).

My Fender Concert - too loud for me and probably be on the market after a little bit of work:

Where's the 'Stang?

Cool stuff, I love that Strat, looks just like Gilmour's #0001.

How many of these instruments did you build from scratch? I know the Hamer-style guitar but it looks like the acoustic may be too.

The stang is on a current state of disassembly. I'm going to make a few changes to it in order to make it more playable. It doesn't really have much collector's value so I plan to lighten it up a bit.

Both the "Hamer" and the acoustic were made from scratch. The bass is a Warmoth. The Strat body was a dead-cheap special from Warmoth because it was a special order that was returned. I have some John Suhr pickups in it currently - one of my Fralins is going back for repair so I'm borrowing a set of pickups in the meantime.

The Dr. Z is pretty great - I've been away from it for a while since I was in school and I'm happy to have it back.

The reverb was kinda weak when I got it but Dr Z recommended changing the tube so now it's great. It can get surfy, twangy or british. Not quite as rich as an AC-30 but for an 18-watt amp it's damn loud. Hence the power brake.

Let's talk about that rotue 66. I'm looking for a super round jazz tone, but not so squished it sounds digital. Very full, very natural, but very smooth. Can the Route 66 do that, or should I keep looking? How's the Od for smooth jazzy tones?

EDIT: I totally forgot to add that I DIG the fact that you make a lot of your own gear. My Bolt is a parts guitar, and I have two mroe I bought necks for and made the bodies. It's a fun way to mesh two things I enjoy: music and woodworking.

The Route 66 is a thicker, heavier OD but it's not what I would call jazzy. It's more like classic rock heavy - think Rolling Stones or Ronnie Wood sounding. The compressor is also extremely sensitive and can easily push teh whole thing into feedback mode if you're not careful.

I have a Double Muff also and it's much brighter and terrible with single coils.

Thanks - I've always enjoyed frankenstein guitars and now I'm learning to love building them - most of my building in the near future will be acoustics though. I plan to start doing more electric stuff of my own design when I get tooled up but I need to make some cash first.

And I was all excited I had found my compressor... Back to the drawing boards, I guess.

And I know what you mean about tools and cash. I'm lamenting moving away from home (though not for a year or two, I'm still in college) and not having my dad's shop to play in. I picked up a vintage cast iron tablesaw for super cheap though, so I'm starting another collection of big expensive toys.

How does the Dr. Z power brake compare to the Hot Plates? Is it a lot more expensive?

I made the AX-84 one - except the cabinet it's now in. My dad made a Pao Ferro cabinet for it recently that's really cool.
