Here's my new tune I wrote today, It's in E as was the last one I posted but with a cool little D to A/g thing on the word "shotgun." And I repeat the "have his fun with a big ol shotgun" parts twice.


Tell you bout a man named Cotton Jenkins
Who ran a whiskey still,
He’d live all his life For a Friday night
And a full jar for to swill,
He’d have a good ol time, A bottle of wine
And be damned the fields to till,
Spent all his time with rotgut shine
Left nine women in his will,
And he’d have his fun
With a big ol shotgun.

He’s got a sawed off smoothbore shotgun
Filled with rock salt shot,
It’s a pump action piece of power
He’s a pissed off former cop,
He’d lost all his money, stole some guns
It seemed he never would get caught,
One day the bosses all got wise
(When he) shot Up their parking lot,
With his homemade rum
And a sawed off shotgun.

You know Cotton had a daughter
A girl named Mary Ann,
She’s the same age as his girl friend
And he got her second hand,
Now daughter’s got a daughter
The daddy don’t give a damn,
He's a hot shot with the women
He’s a fire fightin man,
Now he’s on the run
From that big ol shotgun.

Well that Oklahoma Sooner
Would sooner off be dead,
Cotton chased his ass across Texas sands
Till no daylight was ahead,
Boy blew a tire round Callahan City
No worse timing could be had,
He didn’t count on a Tennessee daughter
With a mean Kentucky dad,
He got overrun
And a big ol shotgun.

Well a local boy named Johnny
Got pinned for Cotton’s crime,
Had a brand new shotgun a night too long
And too many cups of wine,
He got a three day trial, and all the while
Lawyer stole his girl and ran,
He got 30 to life and lost his wife
Cause Cotton wasn’t a peaceful man,
Now he’s hidin out
In a place called Shotgun.

As with your other song you posted, I played chords and sang the lyrics you wrote, and the song flows really well.

The 3rd paragraph (stanza I think it's called?) is my favorite by far.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good title? I don't know if I like "Cotton's Shotgun."

and how about "shotgun Jenkins." but really, I like the title you had already. although when i read the thread name, i instantly thought of the show "King of the Hill."

Haha, yeah, maybe I should add a verse about propane. Nah.

I like Shotgun Jenkins, hadn't thought of that. We'll see, if I change it around I'll post it.
