what song do you wish you'd written

after the runaway success of the what album did you wish you'd written thread...

...i thought a new one was in order

the title does say it all

i'm not sure i can narrow it down to one myself but tom waits' 'innocent when you dream' is one of my top five.

1. Simple Plan - I'd Do Anything

Not a fan of the band or the music really... but I'd be so rich right now.

Lots of pop music, like "Always On My Mind" by Phantom Planet or maybe Britney's "Toxic". I always struggle to get a hook into a song, so (good) pop music fascinates me.

"Red" by King Crimson

There's no way I'm ever going to be able to write something like that.

"Eruption" by Eddie Van Halen.

Others may do it faster and cleaner, but he did it first and spawned the wannabes.

When I saw him (Fripp), I was there for shred and hated his solo set, but when he came out and played Red with Satch and Vai, I realised the man is a genius.

Maybe when I get out of my hair metal phase, I might begin to attempt something like that.

Stairway to Heaven, for obvious reasons. It's probbably the cheesiet song to pick, but it is the best song ever. And I challenge anybody to write a better solo.

Outsiders - "Start Over" and/or "Break Free"

Otherwise, just about everything Jason Molina has ever written.

Unfortunately, I just can't play any of that sort of stuff.

He is a genius but often a rather misunderstood one, unfortunately. I am glad you had such an experience.

ooo, i've often pondered this very question.
i'd probably have to go wtih either:

1. miss july '75 - the brian jonestown massacre

or

2. Dazed and Confused - Led Zeppelin (not the cd version, but the one that appears on 'the song remains the same' (and not the one from the soundtrack, but the actual dvd.. they're slightly different))
