It's about time these were reissued! While Digitech cranked out the substandard Whammy XP-100, prices on the originals started skyrocketing into the $400-600 range. Thankfully the re-issue sounds and feels pretty close to the original in most respects. While some long-time users of the original Whammy may have some small gripes about the re-issue's tone and tracking, we didn't notice anything terribly obvious when considering the highly synthetic nature of the effect itself. For twisting and torturing your guitar sound, this thing still does the job! The familiar knob and sturdy pedal is back along with new features like Midi control and a wild Dive Bomb patch. This was, and still is, one of the most groundbreaking effects of all time and has shaped everyone's perception of what a "traditional" guitar sound is. The sounds of the WH-1 have been immortalized on the recordings of artists like Rage Against The Machine, Swervedriver, Steve Vai, Nine Inch Nails, and countless others. |
